I finally got Debian squeeze on my netbook tweaked. The HOLOS UI really gets the most out of my small netbook screen. It is based on XFCE 4.8, Openbox and comes with many configuration scripts. For my daily work I use HOLOS, a Debian compatible distro spread by the thinktank alt-0.org , although their website is not very informative yet, there is a torrent link online somewhere, but you'll have to search for it. |

My favourite wallpaper.

Crosspost from the XFCE screenshot topic :)
Installed Linux with KDE. But decided to give XFCE a shot. So installed it next to KDE. Linux Mint 12 with XFCE 4.8 on my laptop :) Full Size Original if you're interested Encountered a few bugs compared to KDE. Such as Firefox crashing XFCE to the login screen and StarCraft not running correctly in Wine. While both programs run perfectly fine in KDE. In the Dock I've placed the programs which I use on a daily basis. Including Newsleecher. Runs happily through Wine. The Linux alternatives to this program I find severely lacking or crashing all the time. |
Back to KDE :) Been messing around with Cairo Dock. Got it running now with the aid of xcompmgr. Cairo Dock has problems handling my laptops Intel Graphics chip by itself. It shows itself with a big black border around it. Now I just need to figure out how to get programs to show up on my external screen. It's set as default in KDE, but programs appear on the laptop screen. This wasn't the case before using xcompmgr. So perhaps I change that.

Mint 12 running LXDE & Cairo Dock. Very quick and lightweight system. In my opinion it even beats XFCE :) |
Here's a pretty desktop in Mofo Linux. This autumn's solar activity has been good for aurora borealis images.

I converted my Archbang install to Arch this month, got rid of SLiM, Openbox, Tint2, Conky, LXTerminal, Thunar, LXAppearance, LXRandr, and OBTheme and replaced that config with LXDM and MATE. Also, to complete the conversion, I installed Screenfetch and replaced the archbey entry in the BASH config file with screenfetch so that the terminal reads as Arch instead of Archbang.
As for theme, I'm using Ambiance Cold + Aw0ken icons currently, and I've also set it to Human for the lols a couple times. Here's a screenshot of MATE using Ambiance Cold and one using Human. As for the compositor, I kept Compton, and I'm currently using it with unredirect fullscreen rendering enabled with MATE. Also changed my username and hostname since the last time I posted screenshots. Also, used GNOME3 for a little while before getting rid of the preconfigured Openbox and GNOME both and going with MATE, GNOME3 Classic Mode has a lot of potential, however for my hardware, it's just to heavy, while lighter DEs like MATE or Xfce4 are great on hardware of those specs. http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/y...psa3518a35.png http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps1eea9563.png |

The menu bar icon changes with whatever icon theme you're using, in this case, the four gray boxes for Aw0ken, and the Arch logo for Human in this case because I used the Human icon theme included in the Arch repos.
|
Hmmm. On mine it is menu>rightclick>preferences>Button Icon.

ChromeBook came in the mail today.
http://thumbnails104.imagebam.com/32...b323658477.jpg Beats the hell out of me what desktop>theme>etc:::::::: it's using. Still learning this. It was dumb down easy to fire up and run though. I am spending more time on Windows Activation for XP, on one of my netbooks that I am going to sell, to recoup monies spent buying this 11 incher. Windows can be a PITA, (at least for me). |

Linux - Screenshots

Hi All,
I've been running Linux, as my main OS, for about 10+ years. And, still a Newbie! I did use M$ forever, and was always curious what was so attractive about the Apple Mac. WOW! What a dissapointment, I've been playing with one for a couple of weeks. I know people are just so religious about these things, but really... The cost is scary, and my latest adventures (LOL), have been trying to play YouTube videos, Up-Dating Mavericks over the weekend, and keeping those iTunes up-dates up-todate. I have been on a bit of a rant... I'm running Backbox Linux, which is based off of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I use it for all my needs. |
