"It depends"
It runs Opera pretty well, and there is an rdp client for it (under OpenZaurus), so the connectivity is pretty good. I was working on setting it up as a laptop replacement for travel, but I don't travel often enough to make it worth activating the web service on my cell phone (the Z would link through the IR port to the cell). Everything except that part was very promising.
So it really depends on how you want to monitor your network.

You mean packet sniffing, connection tracking, that sort of thing. The 5500 (and of course the 6000) are fully capable of running ethereal as well as a host of other networking tools. I occasionally use mine at work to find rouge machines (personal laptops, pdas, etc) on our network. Works like a charm.

Zaurus and Linspire
I just bought a Zaurus SL-5500 on eBay and want to sync it to my Lispire desktop. I don't have any idea how to do it; my husband the software engineer tried it, too, and couldn't get it to work. Is there a way to do it, or should I consider this the last straw (the next-to-last straw was all the software I lost doing the 5.0 Linspire upgrade) and change to Suse or RedHat or Debian?
