xvinfo "no adaptors present" 4500M Intel graphics xserver-xorg-video-intel

I can not run mplayer on my laptop, which appears to be due to a graphics driver issue. The laptop has Debian Lenny installed and the Intel 4500M graphics chip. I have the latest version of xserver-xorg-video-intel installed.

xvinfo lists "no adaptors present", which seems to be related to the graphics driver from what I can tell on other posts.

The hardware is a compaq CQ60-615DX-Notebook.

Any suggestions? Any help is much appreciated.
