X server doesn't work on Packard Bell easynote!!

Hi all!

Right, I tried installing fedora 7 on a Packard Bell laptop, when this did not work I installed it in text mode. For some reason the X server refuses to work, something wrong with the graphics card? I found some advice on the internet saying it might be due to a vesa driver that it picks on, but I don't know how to change that to sis like they suggested.

I also tried installing fedora core 6 to see if the X server would then work, it didn't. Any suggestions? I've installed fedora 7 to my own Dell laptop, and it works fine...

cheers!

E.

Maybe you give us some information relative to the problem. How about the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log, the contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and some information about your graphics hardware? Changing to the SIS driver only makes sense if the machine has a SIS GPU.

Hey,

I tried typing in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the other one but even though I was logged in as root it said '-bash: /var/log/Xorg.0.log: permission denied', so how can I view it?

And I'm not sure about the graphics hardware, but when I did an update I saw xorg.vesa being updated.

thanks a lot!!

E.

Code:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log > ~/Desktop/xlog &&
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf > ~/Desktop/xfig
Open the files that will be created on your desktop, copy and paste the contents here. Wrap each in tags like I did with the commands above.
