Okay so what can I use to burn a live CD? Do I need Nero or can I use a stock windows application? I've never been through that before, so I don't know where to start.

You need a burning application, but Nero is not necessary. I have made good experiences with Imgburn, it is free and simple to use.

does imgburn work with windows?

It only works with Windows, since you mentioned Nero I thought you were asking for a Windows software, I always forget that there are Nero versions for Linux.

In linux you can use cdrecord

When you go the the Ubuntu page for downloading the iso it tells you what you can use with vsarious versions of Windows. All the information is readily available if you look at the pages where you are getting the LiveCDs from.

well I'm looking for a burning application for win7 because after I find the distro I want I'll want a boot disc too so. What can I use for Windows to burn live CDs? I'd rather not put anymore stuff on my desktop because I'm working on a huge program and wanna keep the compile time as short as possible, ya know?

I think you may need to apologise for your agro. Looking at this page tells me, and anyone who knows how to look for things themselves, that with Windows 7 you can use Windows Disc Image Burner.

So telling people you'd rather not do something because of something else, ya know? doesn't seem a little over the top to you.

It appeared to me your priority was to do your programming while the rest of us scurry around finding things for you to use. I don't work like that. I am not here to spoon feed you. I will help with links and other things but writing a step by step when plenty are available anywhere and everywhere, including in the page which I suggested you look at and which I later posted for you, are a waste of time because you could just as easily read the pages we have linked to. If you are a programmer I do not see why you couldn't do this. Windows 7 has a tool to burn image files. You use Windows 7, I don't, yet I could find this information quickly and easily. Why couldn't you?

you're right I couldve and shouldve found it on my own. I'm not here to argue with anyone. I just asked for help since I'm relatively new to linux. I'm sorry for wasting your time. I wasn't asking you for a step by step , I was just wanting help picking the right distro for my laptop and asked for a reccomendation from you on what program I could use on Windows to burn a Live CD, and you helped me out with that, and I thank you for all your help. It is appreciated. I didn't intend to piss you off or annoy you. So I'm sorry.

Flex, the thing is people here will help as much as they can but we all expect the person asking for help to do some of the legwork. That is all I, and I think the guy from Iran who you also apologised to, and anyone else here expects. We will all give advice and hopefully when you are more comfortable with Linux you'll be able to pass on, not spoon feed but help the other person to learn for themselves, information that they can start with.

BTW your nickname gives me a mental image of a 6'6" guy with huge muscles.

haha but seriously man, thanks for all your help and I'll do alot more research on my own in the future. And I didn't know about the Windows Disc Image Burner, the only one I was aware of was the DVD maker.
