I would try chromium or ungoogled chromium and see if it works. The codecs I think are built-in versus firefox depending on the system's codecs. Also, I would try to open a suspect mp4 or video by launching video player from command line so you can see the terminal messages when launching.

If you installed Firefox from your distribution's repositories, then try the FlatPak.
