my laptop an EVO N610C has a 1.8ghz P4-M CPU with 256k L2 cache. would changing it to a 1.8ghz(or even 2ghz) P4-M with 2MB L2 cache from ebuyer work??
i know the n610c ranges from 1.6ghz to 2ghz.
aaah! i didn't notice that there the slight difference in wording on the site.
so if i bought an Intel mobile pentium 4 with 512k cache, do you think that would work?
also, pentium mobile, is that like centrino or something?
yeah that's the same as mine. except mines only 1.8 but i could buy a 2.4 from HP, stick it in and it should work...right?? surely all of the n610c's have the same mobo regardless of cpu clock speed.
yes, it should work, but i'm not so sure sure you will get much real-world benefit.
if you are experiencing cpu bottlenecks, then by all means go for it. just realize that a higher clocked cpu will generate more heat. be sure to find some good instructions on changing the cpu, and buy some good thermal grease (do not try to resuse the pad/grease that is currently on the cooling mechanism).
if you find programs/booting is going slower than it should, it might well be that you could benefit from a faster hard drive. the new 7200rpm drives are leagues better than the older 4.2 k or 5.4 k drives.
there isn't actually anything wrong with the speed of this laptop, it runs perfectly! it's just...i don't know, i guess i'm getting a little bored of it and would like "spice" it up a little seeing as there's not much in the way of case modding for laptops but the first on my list is definitely another 512MB RAM.
anyway, i learn't quite abit about mobile processors... so thanks guys!
