Ubuntu 9.10 - "Restart" option just restarts Ubuntu, doesn't restart PC
Hello,
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Toshiba laptop. On previous versions when I chose the "restart" option the laptop would actually restart. Now it restarts Ubuntu, and I have to choose "shut down", then restart the PC manually. This really slows me down because I have to go to the laptop and turn it back on. Anybody have an idea on how to fix this?
I am confused .
To restart the OS , you have to restart the computer .
Or do you mean by restarting UBUNTu that it goes back to, the login screen ?
Exactly. When I hit restart, instead of going to the POST screen and restarting from GRUB (which would allow me to choose Windows), it signs out like it's going to reboot, then it restarts Ubuntu like it loaded GRUB (even thought it didn't) and takes me to the login screen.
It's not the same as just logging out. That immediately takes me to the log in screen. This one actually does a "mock" reboot, but it doesn't go POST > GRUB > Ubuntu. It just goes straight to Ubuntu, but takes time like it actually rebooted.
I have the same problem on my Acer dual booting Debian 6 and Windows7. If I go with Debian and select restart it just restarts Debian and does not reboot the laptop. So I have to choose shutdown and push but to restart computer to get grub menu. Dual booting is a pain but this makes things worse.
