This is just my opinion, of course, so anything you do with your laptop is your own responsibility- in my experience with a few different laptops(ancient Compaq, a couple of Dells, an IBM Thinkpad A30, and my current laptop, a Toshiba Satellite L355), and information I've found on this forum while searching, you should be ok; the thing I think you will most likely have to fiddle about with to get working is suspend/hibernate, and you shouldn't have too much trouble solving that issue with some searching on the forums.
Admittedly, my approach is a bit reckless- I install Slackware on any computer I get, and fix any issues as they arise- but that works for me.
I hope I've been of some help to you, and wish you luck with your project.
