Sound on my Toshiba Satellite A75-S209 with Debian Sarge 3.1 r1 & Kernel 2.6.8-2-386

I have been trying to get sound to work on my Toshiba Satellite A75 with Debian and a 2.6.8 kernel. It has not been working at all. I installed alsa-base and nothing changed. Alsaconf does not find any drivers. The laptop has a Realtek ACL250 Sound Card, and apparently the driver for this is snd-atiixp. I cannot find that driver, but atiixp is being loaded at startup. A beep does work, although amixer cannot find any default sound cards (as with all programs). I am not sure what to do, or where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for the reply.

I had already gone through that site (and many others like it) trying to find a solution, but none of them worked. I do not have snd-atiixp running (nor snd-atiixp-modem), and modprobe cannot find them. Alsaconf does not find a soundcard what so ever, even though I know that my sound card is the same one that Jeff McCoy installed with. I am not sure what my problem is.
