Resolution problem in fedora 4 on dell 505

I have recently installed fedora 4 on my dell latitude 505 notebook.
The problem is that am not able to set up a resolution more than 800*600, there is no option available in the display properties.

I thought this is because the correct driver is not installed, so I downloaded the driver from intel website, and it says that I have to install the driver in text mode, but whenever i type init 3 in terminal window or press ctrl+alt+backspace, the system instaed of going in text mode, only a black screen is shown, the only option left is to reboot by pressing ctrl+alt+del.
how do i access the text mode and install the driver or is there any way to set the resolution right because the desktop looks ugly with 800*600.
