Fighting systemd is hard enough. If Debian drops 32 bit support. We are screwed.

Lucky for people. Puppy luvs ya and 32 bit stuff also.

Which may be more chaotic. But in the end. User Friendly. Because I call user friendly when something makes my gear work.
It is not their fault I am too ignorant on how to implement it.

Then I had to fiddle around with the TomTom resources (and the browser) in order - eventually - to get TomTom to update very shakily. It was all so time consuming (browsers that didn't etc) that I've decided not to remove XP but to keep the elderly Dell D400(!) as it is. Anyway, my husband has taken pity on me and promises me yet another ancient laptop to play Linux OS on so I will still be having a shot at this...

Don't even ask about the building work as *that* is even worse than Windows XP - more like DOS...

It is how I started learning. My wife got me into computers. The rest is history.

I keep a old XP desktop tower for them glitchy hardware updates you mention that has proprietary drm stuff in it.

So what did you put on the laptop :-) Personally I am in love with Bodhi Linux! And have been for years. You might even find, as I did, that you need to use the terminal for the odd minor thing and then find it's actually easier and faster to use it. I still know zilch about the terminal but enough to get by with updates and installing the odd thing.

That aside Bodhi seems to run on anything and still be fast.

I totally agree with the comments that have been made about experimenting with different distros and I've learned so much from being 'playful' with the distros!

Re a terminal - How did I manage before????
