I've been trying for the last couple of days on a Presario 2140US. Haven't had any luck, hangs on the PCMCIA service. I'm not well versed in Linux and I've tried different things without success. What I really need to know is how to get into an interactive mode on the system, using either LILO or GRUB boot loaders, and shut the PCMCIA service off.
I only get a blue Suse screen that gives me an option to run Linux or Failsafe and give boot options on a command line. I need a step-by-step dummies version on how to fix this problem.
I did try installation with ACPI off but without success, the PCMCIA services still locked the machine.
I had some success by going under Rescue which gives you a login prompt. I logged in as root and created an /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia file with a single line that reads PCMCIA=no. After that, the boot blew past the problem PCMCIA area but I got stuck on what looks like the graphics environment load where it gave me a black screen.
I've since brought my laptop into service to have the battery charging looked at and won't get it back for at least a week (it was happening under WinXP). I'll keep following the thread, since I'll be back trying as soon as my machine is home.
