Old Compaq LTE 5000.

Hi all!
This is my problem:
I have an old Compaq LTE 5000 laptop, and i cannot install on it a new os because it does not have a CD-ROM drive. Now it is running with DOS installed.

Can you suggest a LINUX distro that i can install by floppies?

Thanks for any reply!

I've never tried it, but one of the last Linux OS releases still providing floppy images is Debian 4.0 (etch). You can find them on every Debian mirror under dists/etch/main/installer-i386/current/images/floppy/.

Most likely some of the tiny Linux OSs provide images and/or instructions to boot from floppy disks. Here is an example from the Damn Small Linux FAQ: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/install_from_floppy.html.

Good luck!

Does the laptop have any USB ports, or is it just that old? If it does, then you might be able to use a USB CD-ROM drive with it so that you could install a Linux distro from a regular CD.

It is really old! It has not USB port or ethernet port.
Only a 9-pins serial port...
