odd laptop screen behavior

On login, my desktop has started showing in a rotation, 90-degree clockwise (window tops on theshort right edge). The button will put things into correct orientation, but I cannot find what changes the orientation on login and what has altered the default laptop-mode
(window tops on long edge).

Can someone shed light on this?

Running Mint-15 with Cinnamon on a Lenovo X220 Tablet
I have a "convertible" laptop -- screen rotates mechanically into a tablet configuration. A button on the bezel tells X11 to rotate desktop images through four orientations:
  • normal(laptop) -- screen and keyboard as you would expect
  • inverted -- screen images upside down with keyboard below
  • tablet -- images orientate along the screen short edge
  • inverted(tablet) -- like "tablet" but the other short edge

Thanks,

Hi

in debian the package you need is x11-xserver-utils

search for it in Mint it may be called something else

but in debian there is also a front end=gui called arandr

the first package you download, if found provides xrandr which says
Quote:
- xrandr, a command-line interface to the RandR extension
if you prefer commands see man xrandr and notice the --rotate (left, right, inverted)
I suggest you need left

good luck

This is available in Mint-15 Cinnamon. It is installed by default.

I needed to install 'arandr' separately. It was not loaded by default.

I'll play with these and see what I can make happen. Thanks.

QUESTION: I'm still trying to discover where the "after login, initial orientation" gets stored for the next session. There must be a persistence file somewhere.

http://askubuntu.com/questions/63681...tion-permanent see number 27

it is discussing using arandr and then having your display manager execute that script

Of course you may not be using lightdm but gdm3 kdm etc so look into /etc/ for your login manager
---if struggling you could always (temporary) measure install lightdm
make it the default display manager
add the script
edit the config and see if that works

as a generalization, the login screen does not need to have fancy graphics etc so lightdm could suit you more permanently?

the second link shows some images of arandr
