Question Non-Ubuntu distro on System76 14.1" Galago UltraPro?

Hello,

I am interested in the System76 14.1" Galago UltraPro as a new notebook computer, due to its Intel Iris Pro graphics with 128 MB eDRAM and relatively portable size. Unfortunately, System76 supports only Ubuntu on this computer, but I would like to install other distro(s) such as, but not limited to, Fedora.

Does anyone have experience using other distros on this machine and can report on hardware compatibility and performance? Also, if I am missing other laptops with similar specs (especially if it comes with builtin Bluetooth) that you think I should consider, let me know too!

Thank you very much.

Hardware compatibility is purely a kernel issue. Any machine that is able to run Ubuntu should have no problems with other distros, if you use a kernel with the same or a higher version.

Thanks TobiSGD for your quick reply. That does make sense.

So I contacted System76's tech support, and they stated that if I re-install Ubuntu 13.10 on the 14.1" Galago UltraPro, I have to download a set of drivers from their website as well. This seems to imply that there are certain hardware components that Ubuntu 13.10's kernel does not support out of the box... Does anyone have know anything about this and what those hardware might be? In the meantime I've also emailed tech support to see if they will tell me...
