Usually you get a boot menu by pressing a special key which is not the key that gets you into the main UEFI setup menu. On my Lenovo tower it's F12. My hardware manual says:
Quote:
Press and hold the F12 key, then turn on the computer. When the Startup Device menu appears, release the key. If the Startup Device menu does not display using these steps, repeatedly press and release the F12 key rather than keeping it pressed down.

Neither my laptop nor my PC will allow setting a USB as a boot device, although once in the boot menu I can select and boot from the USB device.

I think most current BIOSes have for security reasons totally disabled setting either optical disk or USB as a standard boot device.

I'd bet that the usb will show up under the hard drive order choices not any usb boot choice.

Most systems have a F key to select boot order at power on.

Some few computers may need to boot twice to get bios to enter the usb to the choices.

Guess you could boot to efishell too but that is way more complex.

Perhaps you need to disable secure boot to be able to set USB booting(?)

i have tried to disable the secure boot and fast boot but still no result. in the boot order in bios it only shows my SSD drive without any sign of my flash drive. my default bios setting is UEFI so i have even tried to change the boot settings to legacy first but still no result.

rufus has a dd mode that sometimes will work when the default doesn't. The dd option comes up when start is clicked.

Normally the defaults work in rufus, msdos uefi and bios. You already tried gpt, try ntfs, I saw another thread where ntfs worked.

is the setting the one that caused the USB option didn't appear on the boot order?

I found an older thread where the OP selected the following rufus options which worked:
Partition scheme and target system type: MBR partition scheme for UEFI
create a bootable disk using: ISO image select iso image to burn and select start

The Zorin installation guide uses Balena Etcher to create the bootable USB drive and although rufus does not specifically mention that Zorin ISO is known to work there could be problems. I would of thought using dd mode would work regardless... Unless you can test the USB drive on another computer you really don't know if it was created successfully.

From those images you seem to be in the wrong place.
That is in the bios itself, and you need to be in the boot menu.
For most machines F10, F11, or F12 will get to the boot menu while F1, F2, or Del will get into the bios setup.

With the USB stick plugged in, try rebooting and use the keys above to get to the boot menu then you should be able to select the USB stick to boot from. If it shows 2 separate entries for the USB stick one should be marked UEFI and that is the one to use for booting into UEFI mode for the install.

I see that secure boot is disabled and that is good.
