No sound (no sound card) (Dummy Output) on Ubuntu 19.10
I have a recurring problem with sound on my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14, running Ubuntu 19.10 (though I also had the issue on 18.04).
For some months I have been able to play sound via Bluetooth speakers, though not through built-in speakers or plugged-in headphones.
While trying to get plugged-in headphones to play today, I stupidly deleted and reinstalled the alsa and pulseaudio packages. Now the system can't find my sound card at all.
Output of `aplay -l`:
```
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
aplay: device_list:293: snd_ctl_pcm_next_device
```
Output of `lscpi -v | grep -A7 Audio`:
```
(nothing :P)
```
Output of `arecord -l`:
```
**** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices ****
arecord: device_list:293: snd_ctl_pcm_next_device
```
When I look at Preferences > Sound I see only "Dummy Output" in the sound devices dropdown.
When I run `pavucontrol` I see Dummy Output as the only output option.
When I run `alsamixer` I get:
```
cannot open mixer: No such file or directory
```
Before I (stupidly) deleted and reinstalled packages, alsamixer was running fine.
Does anyone have any tips for me? I have a hazy memory of possibly booting into Windows (I am running a dual-boot setup) and upgrading my BIOS and having that solve a similar problem in the past...but I'm reluctant to fiddle with my BIOS if there are other options.
I know there are a million sound-related questions on these forums already. I would be looking at them, but when I type "sound" into the Search option here, it tells me that it found no results, which is patently false, so I throw myself on your human mercies.
