OK I installed the Mandrake 2005 on my laptop today. I was having problems seeing the login screen with the 10.1 version.
I am now posting this from the Mandrake 2005 SE version. Obviously I can now see the login screen and things are great except.....my display, set to 1024x768 24bbp is more like a 640x480 screen. The images are really clear but I have to "scroll" around even my desktop.
When I did the install, I got a message about my laptop being able to support multiple displays. I had the install configure all heads independently. The display settings show up with 1024x768 but the display refresh is set to "0" and no other option is given.
I do not use two monitor for anything (heck I have a hard enough time concentrating on one!!!).
I am putting my Xorg.conf file in here to see if any of the myriad of geniuses on this forum can help me. All I want is one screen (display) at 1024x768 that I don't have to scroll around to see the desktop.

Sorry it took a bit to answer, but I was on the road for the last two days.
I did what you said and edited the section. I now no longer have to scroll around the desktop but I am now back to the problem I've had with most distros that I've tried. I have now lost the option to have 1024x768 screen resolution. I now get the options 640x480 and 800x600.'
Any suggestions. I've checked the Mandriva website and their HCL page says that this chipset is fully compatible.
Thanks for your previous help, though. I can tolerate the 800x600 as long as I don't have to scroll the desktop. That was a pain.
