Linux on a MacBook Air (late 2013 model)

Passing my travel laptop down to my son who is not fond of Apple and prefers Linux. Any advice on installing Ubuntu on it? Personally its BSD underneath and I would't do it, but it's more of an Apple dislike kind of thing for him.

Linus Torvalds uses a Macbook Pro with GNOME 3 so it's certainly possible.

Your son has excellent taste, BTW.

Do yourself a favor and keep the recovery partition at least I'd keep OSX installed simply so you can receive firmware updates and the like.
