Laptop mouse pad special functions?

The mouse pad on my Sony VAIO has some special functions, for example if I slide my finger up/down the right hand side of the pad the page scrolls up/down.

Does anyone know how to configure or even turn off these functions? They are driving me crazy

Thanks
Paddy

Are you running KDE? Isn't there a "mouse options" menu some where in the settings panel? If that dosen't work you can always turn it off totally or unload the drivers.

Check out the man pages for synaptics and synclient. Just about every feature of the touchpad is configurable.

Thanks that's exactly what I was looking for, after reading the man pages I found all the settings in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

I'm using gnome and there are no advanced mouse settings in the mouse section, would be nice if there was a GUI for the synaptic settings.

There is "gsynaptics", it provides the basic settings for scrolling and tapping. It is a front-end for synclient so SHMConfig must be on in your xorg.conf and I think gsynaptics-init must start when X starts to be able to restore your settings.
