hp keyboard and ubuntu 22.04 login issue

i could swear this didnt happen immediately after i installed ubuntu 22.04 (july 31st) but soon afterwards; the login screen with password prompt would not respond to the keyboard and i found i had to wait anywhere from a minute to five minutes and then suddenly it would work and from then on everything was fine.

i was wrestling with a lot of other more important issues, and now i am down to only this one. in the meantime, i started keeping a log. one of the things i found that made it take less time was to not connect the usb modem until after i had logged in, and then when i plug in the modem it connects to the internet instantly. i have a huawei 4g modem.

i usually login three to four times a day, and i have found that out of 54 logins, 35 were 0-1.5 min, 8 were 2 min, 9 were 2.5-4 min, and 2 i forgot to record. i can live with this, but if it could be made more stable or if i knew what caused it i would be happier.

the interesting thing i found today was that when i booted from a usb flash to try out lubuntu 22.04, it got to the desktop and my keyboard would not work there. there was no login issue here of course, but i could use the laptop touch pad to move the cursor and click on it, and i also tried using the mouse i also use all the time, and both worked, but the keyboard did not work for four to five minutes, and then it began to work all by itself.

i even tried unplugging the mouse (later after getting back to ubuntu) before powering on and that did not do anything to speed up the login process.

i dont know if it could be a keyboard issue, that seems unlikely to me...but i do have a standalone keyboard that i could try using to see if it was any different. unfortunately it is in a place that is very difficult for me to try and get at, so unless someone thinks that is the problem, and that it would help to know, i could get it out and try it.

i have read so many things about ubuntu 22.04 being full of bugs, that it was released before it was ready, etc...but i havent found any other things yet that seem to be odd. i am not aware of any bugs about this situation. i have read a lot of people who had this happening, mostly only at the install, but none of the possible solutions for them were able to help me.

some stats about my stuff:
the hp is 15s-fq2xxx (fq2000?)
ubuntu 22.04.1, Wayland, Gnome 42.2, Graphics Mesa Intel UHD Graphics (TGL GT2)
memory 8 GiB, disk 512.1 GB, 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i3-1125G4 @ 2.00GHz × 8

salima,

Why not give Linux Mint 21 a try and see if you still have the same problem?

i am marking this thread solved because i believe the changes made to 22.04 in the 22.04.01 made a big difference in this issue. according to my log, the login time has changed since that point in time and i am satisfied with the performance now.

thanks to the people who work on bug fixes!

Keyboard not responding at Ubuntu login prompt

I have encountered the same issue after installing Ubuntu 22.04.03 earlier this week. It takes anywhere between 30 seconds to over a minute before the keyboard starts taking any input at the login (password) screen. Do we have a solution to this issue?

Note: The keyboard is not responding for sure, as the capslock light remains off for all this while. The mouse keeps responding though. I click the back button and keep trying to push a few keystrokes on the keyboard & checking the capslock. I eventually get a response in a minute or so.

Ubuntu 22.04.03 Gnome shell 42.9 |Intel i5 1155 | HP Pavilion dv1xxx | 16 G RAM | 2 TB SSD | Dual Boot alongside Win 11

This solution mentioned here on askubuntu forum worked for me.
However. the CapsLock LED stopped working. This is fine by me. Its better than waiting 30 sec to a min at every login.
