I am currently running slack 10.0 w/ 2.4.* kernel on a Thinkpad A21p and I have most things working but I cant seem to get the sound to work. If you have any experience with this I would be extremely grateful for the help.

Thanks for the reply. I guess my brain was not working to well, because it really was a simple fix. The alsamixer settings were off on the laptops speaker. When I previously opened the mixer via cmd-line I was not able to see the laptops speaker setting but when I used the arrow keys to check the settings there it was at the end off screen. Thanks again and A HUI HO.
