PROBLEM found and almost solved

Hi,

I was able to run memory test and it showed severe errors. And the address pointed to the second 512MB chip. So I removed it and them everything started to work. Now I am running xubuntu for about an hour already. Jsut got the WLAN workign as well. The only problem is that I only have 512MB RAM now. Need to chek if the other RAM module is really faulty.

thanks for the support guys...!

Hi,

Thanks, this is what I needed right now! You brightened my week

512 Mb is mooooooooooooooooooooore than enough for Xubuntu. I'd just be on the lookout for a new(er) ram module, that's all...
I notice utter excitement from your part, good, welcome to the tribe!!!!

By the way, if Xubuntu works nidcely, forget about the rest, just fall in love with your favorite distro!!!

Thor

Yes, I am very happy now....

Let's see how xubuntu works, the first impression however with e.g. Firefox is bit slow but I will give it some time, install some applications and just use it to see how it works.

I have ubuntu running on another machine, which is about the same performance but 1GB RAM, but much worse display. PErhaps I steal 512 MB from this to put into T41. But let's see how these both work. Now I at least have all my laptops in such a shape that I (and the rest of the family) can use them.
