Question Having problems with suse 9 configurations

I am a newbie to linux and have finally seen the light, i am having nothing but problems with onfiguring my linux os.My system is an AREA 51M Extreme 3.4 ghz pentium 4 with the Nvidia GO 5600 FX

I have both XP and suse 9 running off the system. The problems i have are listed below

1) My problem comes as i have a 15.8 " SAX2 will not allow me to expand the screen size any larger than 15",

2) I have a dial-up internet connetion but suse will not allow me to use my existing isp (BT Yahoo), is there anyway for me to get around this without chjanging my isp ?

1) Install Nvidia drivers and run sax, make sure they are selected and not generic. The pic either your screen model or matching 15.8 inch screen model from the dell section of the display choices.

2) Read the instructions and set up your own (new) isp settings instead of using the presets?

hello gareth4,

could do with some further clarification -

using Sax2, you should be able to set your screen resolution to anything you wish. by 15.8" i presume you're talking of the viewable area of your monitor..

also, you will probably want to install the correct nVidia drivers for your graphics card - check out nVidia's website.

Are you using a dial-up or a broadband connection?
If dial-up, you might have a problem with your modem - specifically, if it's a Windows modem, linux has notorious difficulty with these (in spite of what SuSE say about improved win-modem support).
As for broadband, again, there may be driver issues.
Broadly speaking, you should be able to use practically any isp with Linux, apart from AOL dial-up as i understand things...

If you could clarify these issues and post back...

in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file, comment out the line which specifies to use MODES[0] or something like that.
