addendum tq system sound above:
Apparently, some of the twiddling to get the system sound wprking, using the excelleny guidance of gkiagia. the streaming A/V came alive, too. I now have everything I wanted working on this Dell Inspieon B130 ~ plays Audio CDs in zine (kaffeine), DVDs in mplayer, and streams the news clips from Verizon DSL homepge,
Sound is working on Intel 82801 family CH6 HD chipset on the Dell Notebook, using the alsasound OSS Emulation from the suse-10.1 OS, downloaded and burned from OpenSuse.org. I suppose to a purist, this is a 'broken' install; to me, this machine is a tool, and now it also helps maintain sanity for aperson who works on the road. I'll take it.
Now, I can entertain mywself on the road, do the PowerPoint Ranger thing for businesw, and keep records in OpenOffice Suite, using OpenSuSE 10.1, windoze free.
Life is good, and Linuxquestions.org and good folks like gkiagia helped make it so.
Thank you very much.
Cheers,
