Fullscreen on an IBook G4 Running Debian

Hey guys, I have an IBook G4 that I picked up from a local technology recycling center a while ago. I have found that setting up Linux on PowerPC computers is an uphill struggle. The one problem now that I cannot seem to find information on anywhere on the Internet is that I am unable to fullscreen in *nearly* any application. When I try, the screen will go black and will then start slowly switching between various colors. I find this strange because I have a screen saver that does the same exact thing. I don't know what it is about the video card in this machine that makes it so problematic. I have recently enabled graphics acceleration (which has its own problems by the way) but this issue has been occuring even before that.

Output of lspci | grep VGA
0000:00:10.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI M11 NV [FireGL Mobility T2e] (rev 80)

Output of glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R300 (RV350 4E56) AGP 4x PowerPC/Altivec TCL

Thanks in advance.

Update:
It appears that this is caused by switching resolutions rather than fullscreening itself.

Are you using Compiz or some other compositing manager?

Marco, thanks so much for taking the time to try to help me. I've discovered that a large majority of my problems were caused by several corrupted packages and I fixed them.

P.S. to answer your question, I didn't have compiz.
