I'm not sure about RH, but many distros have a section in the control center for laptop functionality (that's assuming KDE... I know Gnome has something similar, but I don't remember what it is). In any case, there's probably some section about the Lid Button... turn off this feature.

If you can't get to it that way, look through your acpi files (/etc/acpi.conf maybe? or /acpi/acpi.conf... it's different depending on your distro), anyway, in the main acpi folder wherever it is (should be referenced in that acpi.conf folder), you'll find a folder that says "laptop" or "buttons"... poke around a bit. You might also want to look at acpi documentation, (http://www.acpi.info/) or google for acpi lid button, you'll find something.

Hope that helps!
