Centos 6.6 on Toshiba Satellite C55 screen only uses upper left corner

I installed Centos 6.6 on a Toshiba Satellite C55-B5302 (resolution 1366x768 HD) laptop. In general it works fine, when I did the install with the GUI interface everything was fine. The rest of the setup I did while connecting to the laptop via the network (desk space is at a premium)

When the setup was done, I changed the /etc/inittab file to id:3:initdefault: full multiuser mode
since we do not use Xwindows with our stuff.

When logging onto the laptop itself it uses on the top left corner of the screen, very small.

This was meant as a backup, just to hold the information, but now the client wants to use it as a stand alone, so we noticed this issue.

I did a bunch of googling, but since this is not XWindows related pickins seem slim

I tried adding "vga=792" to the boot line in /etc/grub.conf to set it to 1024x768, but that did nothing

Any idea how I can change this?

Here are the details:

Linux laptop 2.6.32-504.8.1.el6.i686 #1 SMP Wed Jan 28 18:25:26 UTC 2015 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

The content of /etc/grub.conf:

I'm kind of a linux newbie so my knowledge is pretty basic and I usually can find the answers I need online.

Thank you for any help.

did you try with latest version of Centos? It may alone solve your problem. You can test latest Centos with bootable usb prepared with app unetbootin.

also tried playing around with arandr?
