This is my first post to the forum, but it sort of starts on a very bad note (due to stupidity shown by me)
What has happened was, I decided to install Windows 2K (due to me doing a C++ course here in India) on the laptop, as it had already been partitioned for Win2K and Linux (unfortunately, I am completely new to Linux, so I do not know what distribution it is) . After i put the CD in, i found that there were 4 partitions on the drive, namely C: with 1400 MB with 100% free space, and 3 other partitions. I decided to install Win2K on that C: and was told by the setup program that I had to reformat that partition. After doing that, when I was proceeding to install windows, I found that the CD was corrupted, and hence I could not fully proceed with the installation. Therefore, I decided to backtrack on my intention of installing Win2K. I opened the recovery console and decided to re-format the C: drive. The formatting was successful. However, when I now start up the laptop, I find that I cannot even access the Linux Partition!!! To the best of my knowledge I hadn't touched the Linux partition, yet why am I not being able to get the option of booting from it?? Furthermore, the Boot Loader program that was installed (i think its called LILO something), also does not show up. All it says now is that the NTLDR file is missing and that i need to press CAD to restart.
Can anyone help me in accessing the Linux partition?? Or is it gone for good (which is really bad as i have a software worth USD$10,000 loaded on it, and i didn't bring the CD or the license to India)??
I am using Slackware distribution. Does anyone know where i can procure a cd from Hyderabad, INDIA, as the computer I am on is using a dialup connection.
(moderator: If this post shouldn't be here, then you are most welcome to change it, and sorry in advance...im in a pressure cooker situation due to lilo deletion)
