Thanks for the youtube link on disabling secure boot. If I didn't see this video, I would have done the old traditional way of going into the BIOS to make the changes.
You're welcome for both, glad the instructions helped!

Regards...

I'd be hoping for a M.2 slot.

In any case try Ubuntu LTS or consider trying a few choices for one that you like or one that has been reported to work on some web page.

I appreciate the extra info. This netbook is indeed cheap @ around $200. I suspect it will have limitations.

I don't know. The eMMc is an embedded chip on the motherboard. And Timothy Miller said there is no SATA controller on a low cost netbook. He seems to be more familiar with this model. I think he said he has one.

@ everyone who replied to post

I believe I have all the info I need from all the knowledgeable members here who have replied.

Thanks again to all.

Until you get it you can never tell. Models change on lines every day.

However, some of the emmc slots are just goofy where the M.2 slot is standard.

I'll tend to agree that such a bargain priced unit would be stripped of all extra connections.

But, if I were to hope...

Even though it has an embedded eMMC chip, I, out of curiosity, will take a look inside. I doubt there will be a M.2 slot.

I do agree that a M.2 slot with a PCie M.2 SSD is very sexy to have. A whopping 23GB/s speed.

When I upgrade my main home computer in the future, I will make sure that the motherboard has this M.2 slot and then add the PCIe M.2 SSD.

Wyatt507,

This disassembly guide to an HP Stream 13 may assist you regarding M2:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/HP+Stre...mini+SSD/55353

Step 7 states:

You'll notice that there is a large gap for the WWAN card and no M.2 connection. It is possible to extend the mPCIe card and remove the WiFi card completely. Another option might be to purchase a board with an M.2 WWAN card and swap it out with an SSD. Unfortunately these are quite rare.

As the owner of an older HP Stream 11 (Celeron N2840), I must dispute the claim of "ultra fast"
That said, I boot Ubuntu Mate 16.10 (dev) off a mini 64 GB USB flash drive I keep plugged in (and kept Windows on the eMMC). Hitting F9 to bring up the boot menu every time I want to boot Linux (which is most of the time) isn't all that annoying. If I were going to actually replace Windows, I'd go install for uefi booting, and let it go at that

Maybe not ultra fast CF card but I got what he was talking about.

Yes, a fast USB 3 is a good way to go too. Not sure what is faster on mine, the emmc is really quick for what it is.
