"Audio out" port doesn't work with SigmaTel STAC9872AK

Hi! I've a Sony VAIO SZ56GN laptop running Ubuntu Gutsy.
The Sound Card on my laptop is "SigmaTel STAC9872AK".

My problem is, I get sound from my laptop's inbuilt speakers but, the audio out jack doesn't work. I can't hear anything from my speakers even when i connect my speakers the audio jack.

Any kind of pointers or info is appreciated.

This may help - worked on a Vaio FZ31s Laptop with Hardy courtesy of other users particularly AlanR8

Now for the audio-jack problem (sound refuses to come out trough the headphones-jack.)

Edit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base (sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base) and add this in the bottom of it

options snd-hda-intel model=vaio

then do this:

sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-$(uname -r
