Asus Eee 1000H - Bodhi 4.x

Hello,

I have an Asus 1000H w/Bodhi 4.x installed that is not booting. I see Bodhi is currently on 5.x. I recall updating beyond 4.x (maybe to 5.0?) and experiencing issues that I no longer recall. I must retrieve the data on this hard disk or repair the boot sector.

Error message is:

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

Here are some BIOS settings:
IDE Configuration - Primary IDE Master :[Not Detected] (set to Auto)

Boot Settings - Boor Device Priority: [Hard Drive] = 1st

Given the above I suspect HDD issue(s) and think making this drive a slave in one of my desktops may be my best option.

Edit - I placed the HDD (160 GB Seagate Momentus 5400.4) in my USB inateck drive caddy to see if I could access using my Windows/Ubunto X201 but no luck. I also located Rescatux and it reads like it might be able to help me but I need to continue to read its material.

Any ideas?

Use Puppy, then Grub4DOS

Thanks for the suggestion. Grub4DOS appears to be an excellent tool.

Edit - It booted! I am currently transferring files to our storage disk. Question - How can I determine the version number of bodhi installed? The "About Bodhi" dialog display never gets updated so it still reads 3.2.1. I know this is incorrect.
