Thanks in advance for reading, this is my question:
I bought a Compaq Presario 2531, everything works fine except the APM support: I installed it on the kernel but when I make dmesg it says "APM: BIOS NOT FOUND." then I looked my bios and (surprise) there's no APM or ACPI options... WHY???????? WHAT CAN I DO???? is there an hidden section in the system bios??? all I can do is to set the boot devices order (!)
Is it possible that my bios does not have any apm/acpi support? in this case what can I do to read my battery status?
The very first thing I would do is check Compaq's site for a bios upgrade. I'm amazed how far back you can go and still get a bios upgrade for a laptop.
i reckon that the presario isnt that far off from my hp as far as bios settings go and that is to say there arent really any user settings. acpi is there thoughyou just have to believe. no apm is right, turn it off in your kernel and install acpi only. this should work.
akaBeaVis: I already upgraded my bios... nothing has changed, thanks a lor for your answer.
Brain Drop: why the bios has not any user settings??? I just can't understand it.... ok, I'll try removing apm and installing acpi, is there anything I should know then? I'm totally new to acpi... thanks to you too for giving me help.
im not so great with the acpi understanding yet but if you look in this here forum you'll see a couple threads of mine on the subject and see what i get with mine.
