anybody know about the 852/855 graphics drivers on intel's site?

hi

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...ort_Intel.aspx

i'm wondering what that file is all about. i'm using the 2.6.11 kernel with the graphcis drivers for that chipset that are in there. is that the same thing as what that link has? or are those drivers from intel not whats in the kernel (older / newer?)

i downloaded it and tried installing it with ubuntu and it just got a compile error. just wondering if anybody could tell me what those are because intel really doesn't say much, and if i'm possibly missing out on something better.

Well ... why don't you first find out what drivers you are currently using. Then compare them with the intel drivers. (In fact: how about letting us know what these are...)

Intel are unlikely to say much about the drivers because they are proprietary. However, the date they are made is probably there ... compare with the age of your installation.

Your link does not point to a specific driver - please correct this.

Please tell us the compile error you got.

I suspect he means these: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...9&submit=Go%21 - I've tried them myself but have never got them to compile. The date is December 2004.

well i have good news

the ones on the intel site are just ones that can be found at http://dri.freedesktop.org/snapshots/ only they're a little old now

i downloaded the latest version of the i915 driver and install worked perfectly. i don't play games or anything so i can't really say if the video is better but glxgears now gives ~850 fps as compared to 640 without the i915 module loaded.
