Another Question about partitioning...

I have 3x20Gig Partitiions on my Home PC .. (its a 60GB drive.)

is it ok to use the last partition for linux or is that too much of a risk? The computer is a P4 2.4GHz (running at 2.66Ghz) w/ 512MB Ram, with a 64MB Geforce 2 GTS.

Another question is, how well does Wine work? and is there any other alternatives to Wine?? i mean for playing PC games, like Midnight Club II, or CounterStrike ... ???

Thanks, Stephen

"is it ok to use the last partition for linux or is that too much of a risk?"

Any partition is fine with Linux.

"how well does Wine work?"

Poorly. There are inherent problems in writing a simulater for a system of about the same level of sophistication as the host system.

"is there any other alternatives to Wine??"

You could use VMWare.

what i mean with the partitioning thing, is that if i dont want the linux partition anymore, i can just delete the partition and rebuild it as a FaT32 for windows? is there a program which can change the boot master for my drive? i mean get rid of LILO or GRUB afterwards if i dont want it anymore?

wine {shudder} imho, wine sucks. i have to get it running for a windows only program i need to use frequently, but the most i've been able to get out of it is notepad (and it crashes when i try to save anything ).

is any version of VMWare free? as far as i can see, it costs after 30 day evaluation.

Yes. You do not have to delete the partition before reformatting it to FAT32.

"is there a program which can change the boot master for my drive?"

Yes. You can use fdisk.

fix /mbr from a windows 9x boot disk, or do "fixmbr" in the so-called repair console from booting to a 2k/XP CD.
