What would be the most up-to-date kernel version I could compile for CentOS 5.3?

What would be the most up-to-date kernel version I could compile for CentOS 5.3? I've tried the latest stable (2.6.32.8) from kernel.org but it failed to compile. I'm currently running 2.6.18.

If the kernel failed to compile there was likely some missing dependency or program required for its compilation. What was the error you got when attempting to compile the kernel?

What is wrong with 2.6.18? Not trying to be argumentative, just curious.

An updated version of 2.6.18 → 2.6.18-186.el5 with lots of
goodies from the later kernel versions is soon to come.
If something useful in 2.6.32, it may be included.
