user space profiling events enable parameter behaviour not clear: /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/enable reset to X when set to 1

Hello,

I am trying to understand user space profiling either using linux inbuilt mechanism (sysfs). Have gone through URL: https://opensource.com/article/17/7/...comment-136366.

Now, my question is when there are no debug trace probe points enabled in /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/uprobe_events , I am not able to set /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/enable to 1 and if I try to set it to 1, it is getting set to 'X', which I dont understand. Check below:

root@bbr:/home/bbr/xxxxxxxx/out# echo 1 > /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/enable
root@bbr:/home/bbr/work/xxxxxxxxxxxxx/out# cat /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/enable
X

I think ...events/enable is a master setting which should be able to be set to 1 and for enabling uprobes in particular, there is separate parameter available at /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/uprobes/enable . Kindly correct my understanding.

Regards,
Bhargav
