Enabling such fundamental thing as TCP IP is not a matter of compiling a module. So it is advisable to read some documentation in the appropriate language on how to compile a linux kernel. There is really NOTHING complicated in it, especially for one who's ready to "get his hands dirty".
And when you install your kernel source (which in various distributions is called different names) and made your needed (very few are needed) preparations, then you start your first step, which is kernel configuration.

I'm afraid, though, that a kernel without TCP IP will be of very little use (if any at all).
