Try:
uname -m
If the answer is x86_64 you have 64 bit Linux.
If it is something including one of 386, 486, 586, 686 etc. you have 32 bit Linux.
If you have 32 bit Linux, do you know your CPU would support 64 bit Linux? Or do you need to know that test? Try the command:
cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep " lm "
If the CPU would support 64 bit Linux, that should print a flags line for each core or virtual core. If the CPU is 32 bit, it should not print anything.
