Get the last error mesage and quote it here. Probably you should boot off usb flash and check logs for that.

Hello yooy,

Thank you for replying to this thread.

I mounted a linux flash live session and got emergency mode with journalctl system logs

The last error message I got before the journalctl logs is:

[/code Warning: /dev/root does not exist ]

I took a pic of the screen you can see here:

http://picpaste.com/20160227_183242-gd6IFFdg.jpg

The last error message I got into the journal log is:

[/code drm:valleyview_update_wm [i915] *ERROR* time out waiting for PUNIT DDR DVFS request ]

I took a pic of the screen you can see here:

After upload the image isnt as clear as the initial, my appologize for that. Let me know if its unreadable. I am working from a cell phone.

Hi.

You should backup your personal files, as always and reinstall a supported version. http://www.ubuntu.com/info/release-end-of-life

Best wishes and have fun!

Edit: my bad, I missed the .04 sorry.

Do you get multiple kernels to choose from with the Ubuntu system ?. If so select an older one.
That looks like a Intel video driver issue - I doubt a LTS system would have a recent enough kernel to hit the reports I saw, but they may have backported i915.

What was the USB system you used - looks like Fedora. If so, maybe try F22 ...

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for helping!

Syg00:
I dont have any Kernel choice when I attempt loading ubuntu system.
You are right It is fedora, but 23 not 22 that I mounted as flash drive.

The OS on my computer is ubuntu 14 but I am very willing to erase it but how?

I dont know which version of linux would work on this brand new computer. I would appreciate any advices.

Do you think I can erase the hard disk from the emergency mode and install another OS? If yes, could someone guide me on how to do it?

Just found a way to access recovery mode without going with a usb flash drive. But I either dont know what do to there

Thanks again

You may need to set your bios to boot CD or USB first?

Hi Jamison,

I have done this before. I created a usb flash drive to install fedora or ubuntu on this computer and the one I had before. I know how to set up the BIOS to make it run from USB.

What happen is this:

I boot from usb and get the three options: Install Fedora/Run live/Set up settings
Whatever the one I choose It goes into emergency mode.

Its a new problem, before I did the update on the computer, Ubuntu was working fine and I was able to run live

That's weird, I would try a different distro?

Have you tried
Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
or something from "emergency mode?"

This is going to be really ugly to shoot from afar. Last I looked at dracut shell it wouldn't drive the udev rules to create device nodes for the USB so you couldn't even save the rdsosreport (which would be good to look at).
As I suggested above, best to try a Fedora 22 (or even earlier) USB boot - that will have an older kernel/i915 set. Download it from here at LQ (top right menu) - easier than fighting through Fedora website to get to mirrors.
