My .config's only seem to work once.

Hi all, heres what i mean. Yesterday i used a .config from my older 2.6.16.1 and did "make oldconfig" when starting to compile the new 2.6.16 kernel, answered the new config questions etc, got the kernel installed fine. Today i tried using the .config in my new linux-2.6.16 folder again (not in the same folder) and i get alot of these kind of messages:
Code:
.config:34:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol MELAN
.config:50:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol X86_USE_STRING_486
.config:53:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol X86_F00F_WORKS_OK
.config:70:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol X86_TSC_DISABLE
.config:83:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol PCI_NAMES
This has been happening on another box of mine too and im not sure what im doing wrong.

Anyone know why this could be happening?

Don't need to do oldconfig.
Just make mrproper the new sources, then move the old .config into it, run make xconfig, and compile kernel.

When i did mrproper in the new kernel source folder then moved the old .config in there, did make xconfig, saved the .config but im still getting
Code:
.config:19:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol CLEAN_COMPILE
.config:36:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol KOBJECT_UEVENT
.config:377:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol IP_NF_MATCH_LIMIT
.config:379:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol IP_NF_MATCH_MAC
.config:380:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol IP_NF_MATCH_PKTTYPE
.config:381:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol IP_NF_MATCH_MARK
.config:388:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol IP_NF_MATCH_LENGTH
.config:390:warning: trying to assign nonexistent symbol IP_NF_MATCH_TCPMSS
etc.

Any ideas?

Ok, i got it!
There is a new architecture in net modules like netfilter, mangle, etc...
So you have to make new selections for them in xconfig.
