how to change my font size in command line interface

Nowadays, I have installed a RedHat Enterprise Linux 5e
on my VMware on Win7 on my Fujitsu laptop.
Considering on performance, I want to work under command
line interface. However, when I get down under that
enviroment, both the resolution is too ugly which is not
suitable to my widescreen notebook and the console font
size is too small that is not convenient for my development.

To solve these problems, I have tried a lot but little works.
00
Ex, I have modified /boot/grub/grub.conf, appending
vga=791 (for 1024x768)or 865(for 1280x800) to kernel line;
and modified /etc/X11/xorg.conf with such line added:
Section "Monitor"
...
Modeline "1280x800" 100 1280 1300 1400 1500 800 900 1000
...
EndSection

however, none of the above work, can any buddy give me a
hand or a little advise, a lot thks!!

If your video card is in text mode, then the setfont command will change the font that it uses.
