external usb3 hard disk mount problem with kernel 3.0

Hello!

I've got a externel Seagate Expansion 4TB HDD which can't be mounted on my vdr multmedia system (kernel 3.0, ubuntu based). It is probably a kernel problem, because it works fine with a 3.2 live CD. Is there any chance to get it working with the 3.0 kernel?
It's no option to upgrade the system. Over all it works fine, so I won't risk that.

I hope someone can help
Ernst

USB3 support was flaky (kindly spoken) in the early 3.X kernel series. Even 3.2 kernels can give problems here, you will get the best out of it using a 3.9 kernel (even the 3.8 kernel was reported to have problems with some USB3 devices, IIRC).

... sounds promising! I will try that as soon as I get home. (first to rmmod or blacklist the uas module)

Thanks
Ernst

It works!!!
It was indeed the uas module problem as discussed in ubuntuforums, which brought the usb3 hdd offline. Interesting enough, it was not active: lsmod showed no uas module and so I couldn't stop it with rmmod, but a line in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf solved everything!
Thank you very much !!!!!
Ernst
