CONFIG_HAVE_EISA can't be turned off

Even if I have CONFIG_EISA not set, and unset CONFIG_HAVE_EISA , CONFIG_HAVE_EISA gets set to y. The help refers me to x86, which is in arch. arch isn't an option in make menuconfig. What's going on? Is CONFIG_HAVE_EISA necessary for all x86 machines?

Yes. X86 selects HAVE_EISA https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/lat...6/Kconfig#L215

Why would you want to turn it off? I thought some x86 chipsets still use backward-compatible I/O devices internally.

I have no EISA bus. It adds time to the build, size to the kernel. I don't remember it as popular. I turned off PCMCIA when my laptops no longer supported it.

Some hardware protocols are perpetuated internally. I didn't think EISA is, hope I'm wrong.
