Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question USB driver for my GrandTec Vibe Massager setup?

I have a bunch of those USB massager thingies that I'm going to install into an office chair's seat by slitting the foam cushion open and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a Linux driver for them.

I bought them from ALTEX (Grandtec USB Vibe Personal Massager), if anyone wants to see the picture of it.

Before you start cutting up your furniture, it seems that this plan may have a few significant limitations. Personally I would not recommend having a set of cables running from your computer to your chair, considering that if you move your chair, you're liable to either pull the "vibes" out of the seat, or knock over your PC, or yank the cables out of the ports, or some combination of the above. Plus you'd only be able to install as many "vibes" as you have open USB ports. If a massage chair is important to you, you might want to check out the local classifieds and/or visit the local furniture store to view chairs that are made for that purpose. Just my 2 cents -- J.W.

I have two 4-port USB hubs which I plan to attach beneath the chair. (http://www.altex.com/product_info.ph...oducts_id=4352) And then there would be one cable and one port on the computer used up because my motherboard has six ports anyway. Plenty for expansion later. Thanks for the advice though. Thought of that already. The whole project is so I can save money on electricity while I'm computing.

Cool - the main concern I'd have would be that you might move or turn the chair, and consequently pull the PC down to the ground. Obviously that would not be good. Good luck with the project either way -- J.W.

Youa re right. "Office chair/cables = accident waiting to happen"

You just gave me an idea though. I'm going to forget about the office chair and buy one of those lumbar pads so then if I want to get up I can lean forward and put the pad onto the desk.

Hey now! I can use that lumbar pad on the airplane with my laptop too!!!! A portable massager that runs for hours on my laptop battery.

Someone should market this now that they have the palm thingy. It's a natural progression.

(I wonder if there's a solar charger for my titanium powerbook...)

THANKS MANG!@!@!

Thumbs up

OOOO... I got another idea for the remaining Vibe thingies.... I'll buy one of those slanted foot rests from OfficeDepot and put four Vibe Massagers on that. Then all I need is a script to activate the devices on command from the desktop and I'm all set.

I can see this will be the future. Portable USB powered foot and back massagers!
