i am currently using a ati radeon x1600. svideo out dosent work because i cant get my display working with other drivers. i recently purchased a 37" sony bravia and would like to hook it up with fairly decent results. ive tried using adapters and such, dvi to component adapter with no luck @all. dvi to hdmi cable, works but looks horrible. i know my card is somewhat unsupported now because of ati's release of drivers. im thinking about changing my video card, looking for a decent card, pci express, linux compatible with hdmi output. anyone have any insight? im not looking for anything too high end, price is an issue @this point. i see "nVIDIA geforce 9400 GT 512MB PCI Express Video graphics Card HDMI+DVI+VGA" on ebay for my price range and ive heard nvidia is better for linux compatibility. any suggestions?

tv-out mostly works with the open source radeon driver on your GPU. You may just need to enable the "ATOMTvOut" option in your xorg.conf file. Mind you, it is still experimental, so it's possible it won't work for you, but if you haven't tried that you may want to give it a shot.
