Topsy display problem with Ubuntu

Hi folks
I had a resolution display problem the other day(stuck in 640x480) which was kindly resolved over at the tazforum
But now, though the image fills the screen, the top half is below the lower half. In other words the top of my screen is about three inches up from the bottom.
I tried running xvidtune which I found elsewhere but it didn't seem to make any difference. I also tried entering a ModeLine which had been posted on Google groups for this monitor. That didn't seem to do it either.
Can anyone help?
I installed the latest version of Ubuntu, my monitor is a Gateway fpd1500 and the video card is a Nvidia TNT2 Pro.
But like I say, the picture is perfect; it just doesn't know which way is up!
Thanks a lot
Neil

have you tried:

Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
this will reconfigure the xorg.conf and backup the exisiting configuration.
