Lightbulb Syncing Palm - tip on module loading

Recently I had trouble getting my Palm to sync with my Slackware 10.1 - I had run into a posting from a year or so ago which suggested modprobe usbserial and modprobe visor.

Using lsmod to see what was loaded, I noticed that the usbserial was 'used' by visor, but that visor was 'unused'.

I struggled with this to no avail for several days, switching from ttyUSB1 to ttyUSB0 devices. other things...

Then something clicked while I was falling asleep, and the next morning I unloaded the visor driver.

My sync attempt worked perfectly. Perhaps you guessed it - with the usbserial module loaded, the system was able to see my Palm when I pressed the sync button, and loaded the visor module itself - this time lsmod shows the visor module being used by usbserial.

I haven't the time to research the details of module loading behavior, but thought I would capture this information for others having trouble.

I heard a rumor back when I was using 9.1 that if you hit the hotsync button while the computer was booting it would recognise it properly. Don't know why, but it worked for me with a visor neo.

An update - found that I will consistantly loose my ability to sync if I have mounted an sd memory card (and dismounted it) before trying to sync. Again - don't know why, but thought it should be reported.
