i know i've posted this a half a dozen times but, does anyone have a c-media cm8783 inetgrated sound card that they got working? it appears that mandrake has the drivers, but i still can't hear sounds, and whenever i try and play a test tone mandrake control center freezes. i really need some help, this isn't makin' any sense to me. thanks

Check the permissions on /dev/dsp, /dev/sequencer, /dev/audio and /dev/mixer and check that the correct modules are loaded.

You don't open them. You need to check the permissions on them.
